Documents Required for a UK Visa Application
ONROAD Immigration Team15 April 20265 min read

A UK visa application is only as strong as the documents behind it. Missing or inconsistent paperwork is one of the most common causes of delay and refusal. Use this checklist as a starting point.
Core documents
- A valid passport with sufficient validity and blank pages
- A completed online application form
- A recent passport-sized photograph meeting UK specifications
- Proof of paid visa fee and, where applicable, the immigration health surcharge
Financial evidence
You must show you can support yourself during your stay:
- Bank statements covering the required period
- Salary slips or proof of income
- A sponsor letter and the sponsor's financial documents, if someone is funding your trip
Purpose-specific documents
Depending on your visa category you may also need:
- Visitor visa — travel itinerary, accommodation booking, invitation letter
- Student visa — Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) and proof of funds
- Work visa — Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed UK employer
Tips for a clean submission
- Provide consistent information across every document
- Translate any non-English documents officially
- Keep originals and clearly labelled copies
- Submit recent, in-date evidence
Accuracy and consistency matter more than volume. Every document should tell the same, truthful story.
